Fic: All was well (or not)
Another one finished. I know that I am hopelessly behind the prompts but still, it's a lot more than I have ever written on a regular basis. Same universe than the two before, timewise it's

faynia's Prompt #3: "He makes me laugh. Most days, that's enough."
“Were you seeing him again?”
“What? Who am I seeing?” Harry, honestly confused asked his wife. He had only just entered his bedroom after seeing the children to bed and wanted nothing more than to lie down and sleep forever. His day at the Ministry had been longer than expected, full of fighting against pigheaded officials who dismissed every idea simply because it went against tradition and didn’t ever listen to reason and logic. It was the first day of the chrismas holidays, Albus and James had come home today and as much as he had wanted to spend time with them he had only gotten to see them just now as they were already in their beds.
A squabble with his angry wife, and he could tell from her voice alone that she was angry, was not in his plans for the night.
“Don’t play dumb. And don’t lie to me.“ Ginny was sitting in the chair by the window, still dressed and Harry could tell that she was itching for a fight. Fighting had become a far too common occurrence in the Potter household in the last few months, ever since the boys had gone to Hogwarts at the beginning of September. Possibly the presence of Albus and Lily had acted as a buffer between them, diverting from the ever increasing strained relations between Harry and Ginny. The routine of home life, listening to the children talk about their day and occupying himself with the mundane tasks of cooking and household chores had been enough then to keep the pair from fighting too much. Nowadays Lily spend a lot of time at her Grandparents, the Burrow, understandably so as she could be with her cousins there and with Harry and Ginny both working it was for the best that she spend her days there. However a lot of times she didn’t even come home to sleep, preferring the homey atmosphere at the Wesleays.
“Ron told me about your lunch meetings every day. So don’t even try to deny that you’re meeting him again.” Ginnys voice had taken on an icy tone the one that Harry knew from experience was the last stage before the yelling began.
Tired and resigned Harry decided it would be best to get things over with. “Yes, I was meeting with Draco and Ron should know better than to stick his nose into things that are none of his business. And as we both know quite well how you think about my work and what I’m trying to do, I think it would be better to not waste another word about it. We work together and that is that. You don’t have to like it, Ron doesn’t have to like it but that will not change the fact that it is the right thing to do and that I will keep on trying.”
Harry sighed, they had been over it so many times he didn’t have the energy anymore to discuss it again. Somehow they were unable to understand what his work meant to him.
Worse than the fact that he worked for an improvement of the conditions of imprisonment at Azkaban and trying to help released prisoners find foot again in the Wizarding World was that he was doing it together with Draco Malfoy who in a sense had been his very first case years ago. His friends and family refused to see how much their former schoolmate had changed in the years since the war, not even Hermione who was probably the most open minded of them all couldn’t let go of the anger and hate.
He remembered his last conversation with her. He had once again been trying to explain why he liked spending time with Draco. ‘He makes me laugh. Most days, that's enough to let me forget who he was in school. He is nothing like the boy he was back then.’ His words had been lost on her she couldn’t or wouldn’t even try to give Malfoy a chance. Ginny was even more formly settled in her opinions of the Malfoy family. She couldn’t forget the fact that she had almost died through a plot of Lucius Malfoy’s doing and her hate was spread upon the whole family no matter how innocent the son might have been.
“You’re not even listening to me.” While his mind had been wandering Ginny had started another tirade of arguments that Harry had all heard before. “No I am not, Ginny. And now I am going to sleep.” Harry grabbed a pillow and a comforter and left her standing in the middle of the room. He went into the boy’s room where the sofa would be a bit small and uncomfortable but at least it would be quiet there. Sadly it was the only way he could get some peace these days because as much as Ginny hated to be left in the middle of an argument she wouldn’t dare continue in front of the children.
He probably would have to pay for this in the next days.
